Is London the capital?

[edit]

Certainly it's the capital of the United Kingdom and England historically, but can it really be the capital given that there exists no governmental entity called "England"? Gazingo (talk) 19:02, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's the capital of England by convention, rather than by statute. See London article. It's not necessarily a provable status. Tony Holkham (Talk) 19:50, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

'Largest conurbations in England'

[edit]

The table data is from 2011. Is there someone who can update it for 2024 data? 2A0A:EF40:F0E:6C01:51FA:8639:8A7:C360 (talk) 06:09, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Adding the Coat of Arms to this page

[edit]

I added the coat of arms to this page because it seemed right to do so. Besides, Scotland's page has its coat of arms right next to its country flag, so I just did the same for the England page. RicLightning (talk) 23:50, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I may be mistaken, but I thought this had been discussed before and the consensus was not to have the coat of arms if it doesn't represent solely England. Tony Holkham (Talk) 23:54, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That is correct...there is no present Royal Coat of Arms of England..... what is being displayed here is the UK coat of arms. Moxy🍁 23:57, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Add an image for the Romans in England under history > ancient history. 2A0A:EF40:E9D:A701:644D:E2A5:4EB4:DAAB (talk) 16:53, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit extended-protected}} template. Remsense ‥  17:10, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
{{done}} it seemed like a good idea to me, but happy to go with consensus, if different. Tony Holkham (Talk) 17:17, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I mainly intended for this to start a discussion about what image specifically should be added. Remsense ‥  17:18, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, no probs. Tony Holkham (Talk) 17:20, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good job! I would just suggested adding links to Housesteads Roman fort in the caption. :) 2A0A:EF40:E9D:A701:644D:E2A5:4EB4:DAAB (talk) 19:39, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think the Roman Baths at Bath might be a better image to use, like this one here, on second thoughts. It's probably the most known Roman site in the British Isles. 2A0A:EF40:E9D:A701:644D:E2A5:4EB4:DAAB (talk) 23:14, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well I might as well throw in Vindolanda as a choice? Knitsey (talk) 23:25, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good call! Maybe we could have a vote for everyone to pick from? 2A0A:EF40:E9D:A701:644D:E2A5:4EB4:DAAB (talk) 23:48, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The reason I think Vindolanda as a choice is the social history of ordinary Romans that have been uncovered. See Vindolanda tablets, 1,700 tablets have been found so far. Plus there is the sex toy they found which isn't always what you expect to uncover at a dig! Knitsey (talk) 00:03, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I very much agree. Maybe update the image and place it on the left hand side? The section appears a little cluttered on desktop. 2A0A:EF40:E9D:A701:41C7:7D89:C5B7:E7D4 (talk) 11:19, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
